  • Wide Whitewall tires????

    Wide Whitewall tires:[]

Where can they be purchased at the best price?
What should I expect to pay for them?
    Do they come with tubes?
Are they only in bias belted or can radials be bought.

    Thanks again,

    Jimmie

The best price I found for ones for my car was $183.00 each. That's why I settled for narrow white walls for now.

I just bought some from Diamond Back Tires www.dbtires.com They offer a variety of different styles. Expect to pay $150+ each for them. You can chose vintage style or modern tires from Diamond back depending on your needs. Mine are modern high performance radials with the whitewall vulcanised on. I am quite happy with them

The last few pages of every issue of Hemmings Motor News contain ads from all the vintage tire companies. Most show tire size, WW width, and price.

I just bought some whitewall paint from Iceland. It remains rubbery, and can be used on radials at a fraction of the cost. However, I have not tried it yet - my radiator is at the shop.

I have some diamond backs, and they were expensive. The black on the originals even leeched through within a year, and they replaced them. (This was several years ago). They are still very hard to keep white.

My intention is to buy some no name radials for the Packard Hawk, and paint the white on.

If you google white wall paint you'll get their site.

[img][/img]I've had a set of Diamondback Classics for over 6 years/30,000 miles now, and they still look good. The only thing I use to clean them is wheel/tire cleaner and a brush.

They actually vulcanize the whitewall on to a standard tire, bias or radial-whatever you want. Wide white and 'good price' are mutually exclusive concepts-they cost at least twice as much as a comparable standard tire. I use tubes, but that's only because of the type of wheels I have.

They do look great, but they are a pain in the butt.
