  • 1955 President Sedan

I recently learned of the door handles and window cranks being gold plated on the 1955 President sedans. Has anyone seen these available? I suppose it would be difficult to find them in real good condition. I would like to see a picture of them if anyone could take one.

Not exactly Gold Plated. But if you clean them the gold just disapears.

Several years ago, I had some NOS 52 grille teeth that appeared to be gold. Upon closer examination the gold turned out to be clear coat which had yellowed. I don't know if any other years had clear coat.

The 55 Presidents had gold-colored fixtures inside (and to some degree, outside). Most folks don't know that the dash instrument cluster housing on the early series sedans and the C-K cars had a gold tint to it as well. I had an NOS one awhile back that displayed this.
Parts that bore a gold color usually had a "V" suffix to the part number.[^]

            1953 Commander coupe
            1957 President two door

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Mine appeared to have a transparent gold lacquer on them. 5 ought steel wool (shades of steel sheep) revealed almost pristine chrome underneath. I'm happy with the chrome.
