  • Protective Covering on Door Panels?

Does anyone else remember seeing these?
My folks '47 and/or '51, and maybe others too, came from the factory with a brown paper covering on the fabric door panels. Of course these were removed during the Pre-delivery service, so most customers would never see them. Now I was pretty young at that time, but I do remember the 'ol man would specifically ask our dealer to leave them on. They would last a few months before they were dirty and torn and he would finally remove them at home.
I guess they probably quit using these after vinyl replaced fabrics.

That would stand to reason they had protective covers on them. I recall 1960's Datsuns and Toyotas having clear plastic covers on their door panels, and being in a new car showroom with them left in place until it was sold. A number of years later, I happened see a brand new Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2 door that was just rolled into the new car showroom that still had all the protective interior wrappings on it, including ones on the seats. I distinctly remember the warning labels on them, saying the must be removed from the car as they didn't meet Federal flammabily resistence regulations.

There are still staples in the door panels of my '33 from those covers.

I guess the prep man was in a hurry. I am disinclined to remove them.
