  • 6 volt battery cables

Since I have taken notice of threads addressing starting problems with 6 volt systems I have been noticing the cables on cars in various pictures. The 47 Champion on eBay now is a good example of a car that most likely does not start like it once did. The cable looks too small and it also has one of those replacement clamps that builds resistance due to corrosion after a while. Makes me wonder how many of these maligned 6 volt cars are so equipped. If I knew how to link to the picture I would add it here.

I put 00 cables on my '54 Champ coupe. It never had a problem turning over!

A voltmeter set on 1 or so volts DC measuring battery terminal post to the other bolted connection while cranking will make it clear if there is a cable/connection problem or not. According to the Boschg electrical sytems handbook Voltage at the starter of over 3.5 V, and a Voltage drop of 0.26 v on a 6 volt car while cranking is good to go.

I am not sure I completely understand that statement. 3.5 volts at the starter? Is that what the voltmeter reads while cranking?
