View Full Version : Speedster door floor sill mouldings

I'm looking for the right and left door sill moulding for a 55 pres speedster. I acquired a new pair that had come with the car when I bought it, but they are streight and should be curved as the body is at that point. They won't fit without a lot of rework and the results would be marginal at best. I think the part no are 303584 & 85

There currently aren't any repros available, so your best shot might be to try to make the ones you have work. I have installed those before, and the trick is to seat one end, screw it down, then stuff some shop rags in the door opening and slam the door to seat the other end, and screw the rest of it down while the door is shut. This only works if you have the seat out of the car :)

If you do find some of the newer, curved repros and/or NOS, I might be interested in buying the straight ones, as the originals on my '55 coupe are pretty beat, and have had screws run through them (where they're not supposed to be.)

I believe it was SI that was going to start reproducing them again, but last I heard they hadn't started yet. Might want to give them a call just to see. (and while you're at it ask them about the taillight housings too! I could use at least one of those!)

There has been a lot of discussion as to weither the carpeting goes over the sill plates, or under the sill plates.
If your carpeting is supposed to sit over the sill plate, you can buy or borrow a Dremel tool. It is a handy little tool, and one of its accessories are miniature cuting wheels. You could take a Dremel cuttin disc and cut some lines in it, not going any further up to the top where it would show, but, cutting these lines would let you put a slight curve in the sill plate.

Not trying to sound funny, or take away from the look of your car, but if it is in primer, or body work is just started, you can shape the upper lip of the threshold and with a small grinder, remove the exposed metal that sticks out from the sill plate. The weather strip will still have enough groove, and your rockers will still have the right contour. I think on my car, the exposed sheet metal at its widest point is less than 3/8th. of an inch.

I could use a set of replacement door sill mouldings for my Speedster as well. The originals are there, but they are a little beat up. I read somewhere that the carpet goes on top, which helps cover the bottom inner flange which is probably the worst part of mine. If anyone finds any NOS or hears of repros, I'd also like to know.

I want to say that on a Speedster or President (as with a 56J) the carpet was thicker and denser, and should go *over* the sill plates.

I'm sure someone will jump in and correct me if I'm mistaken.

As Nate said, the carpet does go over the flanges on Presidents, but not on the other models. There is a service bulletin with instructions and drawings for that.
