View Full Version : What gives with used verses new

I just saw a used headlight door (rim), for 53 c/k sell for 60.00 plus shipping
on ebay, and a used rear bumper guard is selling for as much as a new one. I guess I am right. I was looking at SASCO spring sale prices on a rear guard for 53 c/k and it is 70.00. Headlight rims are 65.00. Am I missing something. Are these used, new, repo, or nos, parts from Sasco. Is there a quality problem? Or are do some people have their head in the sand?

Many vendors disguise their identity on ebay because of that. Parts often sell for over retail on ebay, because the bidders don't know where to buy them and used sells for more then new.

I'm goin' with the "head in the sand" comment. There are alot of folks with Studebakers who have no knowledge of SDC, SASCO, or any of the other vendors out there... [:0] ;) :( [V] [xx(]

I'll also say that some NOS parts, e.g. the '62 Lark bumper ends, aren't really worth a whole lot more than good used ones, because the chrome isn't that great (if you want a show quality job, or the car is parked outside, you'll want to replate anyway.) Of course, SASCO for the most part has the parts priced accordingly.

There are people that know about SDC, but won't pay $19.95/27.50 to join when they would probably save that much on one wise purchase.

Yeah, the passion of bidding is tempered (in my case) by a bidding limit never more than half what the vendors sell it for. But I'd go for the ignorance/H.I.S. (or H.I.A.) theory as well.

Thanks a lot for the comments. I need to buy the headlight doors and the rear bumper guard. Are these SASCO items good quality?

Better than used. Good enough for a driver. You'll need to replate them for show though.
