Never mind the high BIN, just check out the wine metallic and silver pearl paint on this Hawk.
That is SO nice! I dare you to tell me you don't admire it.

Looks like a really nice paint job, different, but a little sloppy in the door jamb by the serial number plate. For 65K it better have all the tedious stuff right. I liked the ostrich inserts. Cool. Too bad the transmission is from south of the border... :)

That is a neat way that he did the two tone. I like and admire his creative vision.

I boldly predict that car will languish on ebay and just about any other selling venue. When a car is distincly one man's idea of a custom then it generally only has that same person who views it through $65,000 glasses. Don't get me wrong, $65 large won't buy you a shop built custom frame off resto-mod, in a Hawk or anything else. Its just that finding another person with the exact same custom resto-mod vision will be difficult.

Not my cup of tea. Looks too much like a over-done custom for me. Nice interior though. [8D]Too much Ford stuff. Would rather have seen nice graphite and silver rather than purple. Oh well, you dared us to not like it.

(I'll end up regretting this, but...It is all in my own opinion, isn't it?)
But...(opinion)
I don't like the two tone part at all...
Looks wacked on that car.
And he killed the dash[xx(]
Under the hood looks like a total mess.
Car looks like a junkyard swap shop and then run through the interior shop and paint room.
If he wanted a super reliable driver....well, ok.
But I'd be ashamed to open the hood at any car show.
Hate to admit it, but the execution missed my hot button by a mile, and I have a soft spot for 61's (owning 1.5 of them)...

I also don't like the two tone. IMHO, it would look much better if it was all silver with the wine metallic just on the fin detail.

Just compare this 61 Hawk to the one that Blackhawk61 owns!

I tend to agree about the two tone. But to compare any other color to black, is like comparing a Studebaker to a rice grinder. It just isn't fair. I paid about 1,500 dollars more to get a factory black car than I could have bought a comparable green car.

Is "garish" the correct spelling?

Well, I went back and looked at the underhood. It's not so much a mess, than it simply has that confused, crowded look that you find under the hood of any late-model vehicle. The engine looks exactly like it would under the hood of the Mustang it came out of.

And the dash is just plain horrible. He went and gutted the original Hawk dash, which was one of the high points of the design, and a major part of the car's character, and jammed in all the Ford gages, plus the airbag steering wheel, and painted the whole mess purple.

What you have, is a purple Mustang wrapped in the remains of a Hawk body. But it does have "tweeters and wolfers." LOL

The two-tone paint job is actually OK.

The winters get long in Michigan and I spent a lot of time planning the paint scheme and colors for my 54 Hardtop. The Hawk comes close to what I mocked up. I'm not sold on the scheme on the Hawk but I'm convinced that the Cortez silver lower with a Semigloss top seperated by probably an orange stripe will be stunning. I was firmly convinced that it is the correct scheme when last week I passed a 2004? Monte Carlo with this exact custom paint scheme. The mockup looks like this. http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh263/sweetolbob/th_P1000301.jpg

Oh, it's BEAUTIFULLY done! [8]

Two-tone scheme - probably the paint shop's idea. The colors are OK with me - just not the way they're used here.
I like his confidence that it'll win "Best of Show" if it's ever shown! [B)] This guy must be a used car salesman! [}:)] Oh! Wait! He is!:D

This is going to sound really weird probably, but the one thing that sticks out to me that I don't like is the windshield wipers. To me, an old car should have shiny stainless wipers, and the parallel sweep just looks wrong - I'm too used to looking at C-Ks with the correct wipers on them. It may be a "custom" touch but to me it takes away a little from the original character of the car, and I hate to say it, but the stock ones are less noticeable than what's on there.

I really like the color choices, but I'm not sure about the two toning on a C-body. Maybe just the roof and trunk wouldn't look as odd to me (think Speedster or 56J)

I had to go back to ebay to look at the car agin after reading these comments and I am split. Like any other custom it fits the builders ideal and few others. I would have built it differently, but that's me. The wheels and color would get lots of attention from the younger crowd at a all make car show. I too am disappointed with what I can see of the dash. The buy now price reminds me of the pie-in-the-sky prices you see on cars at rod runs.

Chris,
I liked the paint combo. It's probably something I would not do but my name is not on the title of that car. I don't see the car selling for that price.

I sort of like the colors used, but the two tone, in my opinion, would have been better with the roof & the fin insert in the darker color. Break it off at the c pillar with the same ones used on the early C&K bodies, & keep the hood & deck the silver. Now, if it was a hardtop, that would come off really well, but on a coupe, the door & quarter glass frames would need some type of moulding to break it off. I do like the console treatment, but the dash itself would have been more suited with a modified GT dash. But, as they say, opinions are like noses, everyone has one!

'55 C-bodies used some stainless trim that is exactly what you're envisioning, I think.
