  • Hood springs on a 61 hawk

I know that some of you have replaced the hood springs on your car. I have a 61 Hawk and would like to find out the easiest way to install these springs on the hood mechinizim. The one that goes thur the hole in the fender and down the side is the one I am concerned with, it seems difficult.

Not too hard but make sure the hood is down when you try to hook them up.

I recently installed the springs on my 57 Silver Hawk.
Before attaching 1 end to top hinge, I put a loosely cinched cable tie on the other end and fed spring with cable tie thru the hole , then closed the hood, grabbed the loop in the cable tie with a strong steel hook and pulled it onto the lower attaching bracket, then cut off the cable tie. Only took a few minutes per side...

I have installed and removed both those springs over the last
two days; I just used one of the brake plier tools that has a
hook on one end; I just hooked onto the end of the spring and
puled down. pretty easy- but the hood does have to be down
so there is minimal distance between the spring end and bracket.

The heavier spring goes straight down the back of the front fender and hooks to a tab on the inner fender. You'll need a length of mechanics wire hooked to the spring under the fender. Wrap the other end of the wire around a bar of some sort and pull down and over the tab.
One end of the weaker, longer small spring fits in a hole in the inner, the other end over the torsion bar brace.
