So, its time to change the fluid in the differential of the Transtar and being it uses a Spicer 2211 (Dana 44) rear axle I head down to my FLAPS to pick-up a cover gasket. Simple, right? Nope, no listing in the computer for Studebaker and no way to look up a Dana 44. [xx(] But my FLAPS sells Fel-Pro gaskets, so there's a lead.

I head home and go online. Fel-Pro has no listings for Studebaker on their website, but there is a link to a US parts store. They have listings for Studebaker back to 1942.[^] So I look up '57 Trucks, but there is no listing for differentials.[V] By chance, I check out a '57 Silver Hawk with a V8 - and Voila!,[8D] there it is - RDS 6629 listed for the Dana 44. So, I call my FLAPS and sure enough, they have one on the shelf.:) About $9 later (+ another $5 for fuel;)), it's home and ready for the install. The box even identifies it as fitting a "[u]Studeabaker</u>" vehicle.[:0][B)] Apparently, Mr. "Fel-Pro" does not know how to spell![:0][8]

Apart from the needed spelling lessons, it's too bad the guy writing the script for the packaging doesn't write the catalogue program, it would sure be easier to find things. ;)

AFAIK, a Dana 44 cover gasket is the same from 1950 or so through the present. Vipers use a Dana 44 as did Corvettes through at least C4's.

As did many Jeeps including CJ's Commandos, some Wranglers, Wagoneers, Jeep pickups(J-10, Gladiator) etc.

Well, there's your problem! You didn't ask for a "44 Axle Engine";) Or is that "44 Axie Engine"?
