  • Door Handle Guards

    Hello,

I am looking for any information on exterior door handle guards for Lark models. Did they make them? Did they make them for any other model?
And most importantly, does anyone have a picture of one if they did make them for a Lark. I have seen these on non-Studebaker vehicles. They appear to be stainless steel and look like they attach by removing the exterior door handle and placing the guard under the exterior door handle before re-attaching it.

    Thank you

Yes the AC-2699 Studebaker door handle guards fit all models 1953 to 1963 except 1961 Larks with the body side moulding going through the door handle. They are $60.00 a pair, and fit front and rear on most models.

Door Handle Guards 1964 Challenger and all 1966 Models

AC-2699 Door Handle Guards are listed as an accessory for 1953-63 Sedan and CK models and 1960-64 Champ trucks.

I'm not sure why the 1964 GT Hawk is left off -- but I can't see why they would not work on 1964 Challengers and 1966 sedans which do not have the trim strip even with the door handles. (They obviously won't work on Commanders, Daytonas, and Cruisers from 1964 and 1965 which have that trim strip).

1964 -- 66 door handles are the same as 1960-63 -- so -- what gives?

Has anyone installed these on a Challenger or 1966 model? I am interested in adding them to a 1964 Challenger Wagonaire soon to be back from the paint shop.

I can't see any problem using the Door Handle Guards on Challengers and '66 Lark Types.

FYI, though the door Handles all fit the same '53 to '66, the usage of the Stainless Steel handles that are "dished" ended in 1960, so 1961 to 1966 are the cast, chrome plated, Convex type.

Thanks -- I found a picture of a '66 in Australia that belongs to Chris Skinner very sharp car that has them installed so I think that clinches the answer --

I don't really expect anyone to care but I don't like them.

I guess I should say the car looks better without ?

                Ps.
I really like your car ! I have never even driven a Studebaker and can't wait to someday drive mine.
When I look at a car like yours what looks the best to me is that it looks like you can just get in it and simply "drive" it.

I have a set of aftermarket ones that are for 53 -up Stude and some of the 50's Hudsons. They are different by design but I like em. Bought em cause they were different. They mount the same as Stude ones. cheers jimmijim

I think the Black '60 deluxe has the left side on the right side on the fronts.

They can be installed 'curve up' or curve down'....it depends on the body style, and placement of the body side mouldings.

                              Really???

Every accessory brochure I have from 1953 onwards shows the straight edge at the bottom regardless of model. But not every model was meant to have them fitted. Some cars just don't allow for them due to the placement of the side trim, 1961 Larks are a good example.

                              Chris.
