  • Pulling Spedo Drive from t10

Anyone try to remove the spedomotor drive from the tailshaft of a t10. I attempted to do it according to the manual and all I do I break my puller. I can't get it into my hydraulic press. Any other suggestions?

I've done it before and I believe I warmed it up with a propane torch and kept a wet rag around the output shaft. I used the puller and had no problem. When I reinstalled it I put the output shaft in the freezer for awhile and again warmed/heated the speedo gear. It slid on by hand but you have very little time so make sure you know where you want it before you start.

I just rebuilt two t-10's. I don't understand what you are having a problem with. First off don't heat the ring the clearence is slight not somthing you need to heat.Iam guessing you have the tail shaft
housing off but the trans is not apart? Is the trans out of the car?
Are you trying to use a puller like in the shop manual? Are you going to reuse the gear?

        59r2,

I removed the transmission to rebuild it. It was growling a bit and I was working on the clutch anyway... I have the transmission mostly disasembled. The main shaft is out of the transmission. I have a puller very similar to the one in the book. So far, the gear just won't budge. I had planned on re-using the gear, however, if it is readily available, I don't mind buying a new one.

          nels,

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know why it's stuck on there so hard. I haven't rebuilt one of these since I was a kid about 40 years ago, but I don't remember having this much trouble. I'm soaking it in PB Blaster now, we'll see if the morning brings any relief. If not ... the torch might help.
