  • correct hose clamps for a 60 hawk.

Which are the correct hose clamps for a 60 hawk? I always thought they were the spring type, but the parts books show a different type, but the part numbers don't match with hose clamps.

The clamps pictured are the same as the clamps that came in the NOS 61 heater I put in my 55.

That would be correct, they are a tin strap with a nut holding clip built in, and a screw and nut for clamping, but I question the YEAR they actually stopped using them for the spring clamps.

Not sure, but it must have been about '62 when the heaters went to the spring clamps, more likely about 1959 though. I know the radiators had them from '58 on, because Dad blew one off of his new '58 Scotsman Wagon demo we had in 1957.

Maybe try the Shop Manual pictures, they may be more authentic than the heater kits or parts catalog, IF you are sure they are using the correct YEAR car, as they often reused the pics from older cars.

I checked the shop manual, but didn't find any clear pics of the clamps. According to the parts book they are the right ones for '60. Now I just have to find out where to get them. I checked autoparts places and they don't carry them. I need 4 11/16" clamps and 10 15/16" clamps. Does anyone know where I can find them?

I ordered the bigger ones for the heater hoses. SASCO had them, but didn't have the smaller ones for the defrost hoses. Still looking

Try Dave T-Bow, but screw type clamps are now OK for show.

Try Restoration Specialties & Supply (http://www.restorationspecialties.com/). I know they have them because that's where I got all the hose clamps for our '54 Commander Starliner.

                Kindest regards,

Of the several dozen C/K's I have worked on/parted out ... ALL had the wire-type spring clamps on the defroster and heater hoses. Only one factory AC car had a strap-type clamp on the heater hose under the AC bracket. All the other clamps were wire-spring. (including @ the heater core)

Upper rad, Lower rad,& Thermostat housing: Wire-type
                  Lower Rad Hose-to-water manifold: Strap-type

I've taken two and a half cars apart and both had the wire clamps but the manual for the 55 shows the flat hose clamps on the heater and defrost hoses. I went to the trouble of getting flat clamps for my 55 when I put it back together. Now I realize the error of my ways and am ready to make things right if I have to. Sorry to be a bit anal, but if my car were to be judged, does "ok for show" mean the flat clamps will be acceptable?
                    Thanks

Just got an e-mail from SASCO. The clamps are no longer available. I think I'm just going to put the spring type on and let it at that.
