I pulled my gas tank off today, 1955 president. The tank looks new inside. It looks galvanized.Does it need to be sealed?[?]

I ask this above question with the knowledge that alochol is being added at 10% to gas across the US.

If the tank's always held some fuel, the part you can see will look pretty pistine. The top side, where the air pocket would hold humidity would be unseen. Can you get a mechanic's mirror in there to see if the top looks as good as the bottom?

If it wasn't leaking and no crap was getting in to the filter, I'd run with it.

Keep it full of fuel, keep an eye on the filter and drive it often.:D

Why not drive with it? It'd be much easier on your back muscles.

Do yourself a favor and install one of those 'tin can' fuel filters immediately outside the tank. It's easy to do, easy to change and good insurance to keep crud out of your fuel pump.

Tank looks like new metal on the top inside of the tank. I can wipe my finge on the inside and see where the finger wiped, looks like a micro layer of a 'whiteish' film. I will also install a filter at the tank's out let area. What I got into the tank must have been from the fuel line. The only time the fuel filter picked any thing up was when I recently ran out of gas.I suspect the fuel line had varnish and a few tanks of our US-Mandated-10%- alcohol-gas cleaned the fuel line out and deposited the varnish in the carb.
