    Hello,

I apologize for the last post since it was very unclear what I was asking. I wasn't sure how to go about it but I have a picture now that might help out. Regarding the child safety locks the instruction sheet below refers to the door sill as being flat (circled) however, the sill is curved (my crude drawing in the upper right corner).

This is the kit in the parts catalog for all 1959-1962 W-Y-P models, so why does it not fit? The instructions make no mention of putting any spacer or taper material in between for this situation.

Has anyone ever install these that might know?

    Thank you

Could it be that your door panels aren't correct (not original)? I installed a set of these on my '64 Wagonaire many years ago with no problem. I haven't seen a '61 four-door recently so I don't remember what they look like.

I am not sure what you mean as the door sills are not detachable. They are part of the door and unless they made different lark doors for different models, the sills are as they were built back in 1961.

It just seems a bit odd to me.

The door panels are vinyl-covered heavy cardboard, and are not part of the door. If your door panels have been recovered some time in the past, it's possible that the narrow horizontal surface of the top of the door panel has been distorted. The door panels on my 64 2-door have a narrow, relatively flat horizontal area at the top -- I assume the 4-doors are similar. Some Studebaker accessories fit rather poorly, but it's also possible that your door panels are distorted.

I was thinking of this problem when I was looking at Steve's 61' wagon...notice the tops of the door panels are metal, not cardboard. They are curved rather than flat as they are in 63-66'. I too have installed the later AC childlocks w/o problem....I'm wondering if you have the later locks' kit in the wrong pre-63' box ??
