How did you stumble across that, Bob?!? Great pic!

BTW, only in Japan could you have a baseball team named the Carps!

I was perusing the local county library's photo archives to see what was there. tularecountylibrary.org if you're interested. There might be more Stude photos there - I didn't spend much time.

I think one of those baseball stars has local ties here.

Like most of us here I am constantly on the lookout for Studebaker pictures, especially those taken back when the cars were close to being new. There is just nothing quite like the old black and white pictures of days gone by. You have hit on a fantastic one here. Thanks for sharing.

                Thanks Joe,

I like the B&Ws too! If you take the time to look thru those photos, there's at least one other one of that event. Thing is, I chose to post the one that showed the Stude the best.

                    Nice one Mr Biggs.

One of the Blekemore family farmers in country NSW (and long time Studebaker owners) was at a produce trade fair and met a Japanese bloke that was visiting. The conversation turned to cars at some point and the guy said he drove a Studebaker Avanti.

I doubt they imported too many Studebakers into Japan, but there were dealers there. In 1993 when I was looking at Australian production orders at N & A amoungst the first shipping orders I came across was a fully optioned Strato blue Daytona hardtop and a lark shipped to Japan for the motor show.

Was in Hiroshima back in 1973 for the first time & saw a '62 Lark along with a 6x6 army truck. Also had prime seats to see the Hiroshima Carp baseball team who were fielding two imported U.S players at the time. Mazda Japan sponsored the Carp team.
