  • Anyone know about this R4 car?

I just ran across this car for sale in Australia for $55,000 (AU dollars?). This claims to be a factory R4 specially ordered for racing in Australia. Is this real? It raced at Bathurst in NSW, Australia.

They say it was specially ordered by and for Bert Needham. This is a right hand drive model, and the only pictures I've ever seen of an R4 was on a LHD, I think. But the ad certainly sounds legitimate.
Here is the link to the ad:

If you read the ad carefully, it does not say the car came with the R4, just that the car was ordered with racing in mind. The engine was probably ordered and installed separately. It is not the one R4 car that was built.

Oh yes, that's true. But this must be one of a only a few that Granatelli put together, I would think. About as close as you can get to a factory R4.

There were several dozen left over Granatelli engines, and he put more together over the next few years.

That sure looks like a '65 Daytona Sport Sedan to me. I'd be surprised it came with an R4.

Further down the list the same person has a 63 Avanti with a 320 in. R4 engine. I wonder if the guy has kissed the blarney stone.

that high-powered Lark can't hardly keep ahead of the Mini-Cooper! Maybe its fast in the straights and the Mini is quick in the turns.
