I was going to post this yesterday, but decided to give it one more try, with the help of my body man in his shop, to get the rear windshield trim in my 1957 President Classic to stay down on the roof after replacing the rear window (windshield) following paint and upholstery. I had a heck of a time trying to find the correct barrel clips for the 3/16 inch studs on the 6 clips on the 2.5 inch trim piece above the rear windshield. It is not designed to attach to the rubber window gasket but to 6 holes in the rear of the roof, which I have measured at 9/32 inch diameter. I have not found any supplier who can supply a barrel clip for 3/16" shaft fitting 9/32" hole. The best I can find are 1/16" shaft fitting 1/4" shaft, available on Amazon. We tried plastic sheet rock fasteners of the correct size yesterday, which did not work. Attached are several shots of my trim piece, which acts as a "mini spoiler" riding about 1/2 inch above the roof, plus several photos of similar cars where the trim piece is attached. Any suggestions? (I will have to add photos of the current "mini-spoiler" later as it is on another digital device [phone or laptop].) We tried using barrel clips before, but I don't remember the source, certainly not from S.I.

The proper term for the rear windshield is..."backglass".
At least as far as dealers and glass companies are concerned.

….But I did find my other laptop after searching every room in our house, and I am now watching SNL and have found the photos on the desktop of my second laptop. I have obtained names of several fastener vendors, one as close as Santa Fe Springs, CA, only 24 minutes away on surface streets. I have posted the first and third of these photos showing the problem, with several other "Presidents" with securely fastened trim. I probably have too many tablets, phones, and Studebakers, but I know where they all are located.
Anyone who has had experience securing this type of "backglass" trim is invited to offer tips or suggestions.

The 56 J was one of the first models with this issue. They may have had two types of clips. I am not sure. To make the moulding stay down, they just used a nut on the inside of the car, and a dab of sealer . #308565 I'm not sure what the thread count is and if it fits your clip, but it may. I stock them.
Your body guy can weld a threaded stud onto the clip, try to find a nut that fits the clip, or replace the clip with one that he can find a nut for.Last edited by (S); 02-17-2019, 02:04 PM.
