Sorry, can't help you on the torque curve. There's a good pobability you already know this since you asked for a "torque" curve rather than a horsepower curve since dynamometers measure torque, not horsepower. The formula for converting hp to ft lbs of torque are as follows, hp*5252/rpm=T. Converting ft lbs torque to horsepower is T*rpm/5252=hp. For those out there who aren't aware, don't let torque numbers fool you into thinking horsepower. Torque means little without knowing the rpm the shaft is turning. For instance I was looking through some old Stude road tests. One tested a 289 Hawk as having 300 ftlb torque at 3000 rpm while another had 310 ft lbs torque at 2800 rpm. The former produces 174 hp at that rpm while the later produces 165hp which is opposite the torque values. The torque peak is useful in showing the rpm at which an engine produces the most power with the fewest rpm's. At the same power, increasing rpm reduces torque which is why many tractors use planetary gears in the drive train. By speeding up the rpm of an output shaft, they can put lots more hp through it with out having to go to a larger, heavier one. Or to use an existing lower hp tranny or differential with a higher hp engine to save money.

I think the SAE Avanti technical paper covers it.http://www.sae.org/servlets/SiteSearch?charset=iso-8859-1&ht=0&qp=&col=portal&qs=&sae_qt1=&qc=&pw=100%2525&ws=0&la=en&qm=0&st=1&nh=25&lk=1&rf=0&oq=&rq=0&si=1&ql=&jsp_name=simplesearch.jsp&qt=studebaker&x=2&y=3&ofType=ALL
