  • Any one familiar with this molding?

Upon removing the dashboard from my '48 Champion Regal Deluxe (to have it faux woodgrained), I found this molding. At one time it was flexible. Now it is brittle and broken. It slips on a pinchweld and serves two purposes. It keeps the two pieces of metal from chattering together. And it seals the defroster "chamber" so that air is directed out the small openings at the base of the windshield.

I haven't found it in the parts book. Regardless, I'm sure it is not reproduced. I found a universal cosmetic windshield molding that I may use if we don't find something closer. While the part that slips on the pinchweld is much bigger, it has a bead of butyl in it and I hope that will hold it on the pinchweld. In the picture, the painted molding is the original, and the black one is what I have found and may use.

Any one have a source for this style molding? It looks like it would be a handy design for other uses. Thanks for your help.

Jeff-Guess you owe me a rubber donut. Steele is not much help. I went on-line and have their print catalog as well.
