Looks like the pictures attached: My truck is a 6-volt system. I have the smaller 6-volt battery but the bracket is the longer 12-volt bracket and someone had taken what appears to be the original smaller cover bracket and cut and welded it longer to fit the wider bracket. There are holes to mount the smaller bracket. Was the smaller 6-volt bracket original? I would like to put it back to original. 76658

The correct box should be easy to find. Good luck with the search.
My problem is worse. My 52 has been changed to a 12 volt system and someone cut a hole in the NOS fender and set a too long battery box down into the area where the air duct passes. :(

Cutting a hole in an NOS fender is a real shame, but your next problem will be those corrosion prone battery cable clamps.

It's strange that so many 6 volt Studebaker battery hold down frames are missing. Wish someone would reproduce them.
The repro ones I've seen aren't identical to original.

Cutting a hole in an NOS fender is a real shame, but your next problem will be those corrosion prone battery cable clamps.

The repro ones I've seen aren't identical to original.

I have a '55 E12 6-volt battery bracket somewhere. Is it the same as the E13? Maybe it will surface soon.

Jack, is there a part# for them? If you find frame & cover bracket I would be interested in purchasing. I have not started to search yet.

Danny, it appears that you have all the correct Parts from a '56 or Newer Stude. "C" Cab Transtar Truck for a 12 Volt System using a Group 24, 12 Volt Battery.

Are you sure that the Truck is not, or was not converted to 12 Volts?
It would be ODD to change it over to 12, and then put it back to 6! :ohmy: :rolleyes:
You have a good start to do that, why not finish the job?

Rich, it is a 1955 E13 1-Ton. It is 6-volt positive ground. Starts and run great so don't want to mess with what's working. All parts, bulbs and wires all are for 6-volt. Just wanted to bracket to fit the battery. Just looks odd with all that space and a welded/modified cover bracket.

There were two different battery cradles on 2R - E (6V) trucks. One was standard, one HD. No dependence on truck tonnage. The standard was #675719, the HD was #680349. I may have a used standard cradle in my stash if Jack doesn't find his. SI sells the hold-down rims.

I assume so, but have no empirical evidence -- have never knowingly seen the HD 6v battery cradle. Sixty years ago, there were more than just a handful of 6v battery sizes. I do know that the 6v cradles are bolted solely to the frame, which is different from the 12v units, which also are attached to the fender.

Yes, the "Standard" was used on MOST Stude. Trucks and fits a Group 1, 6 Volt Battery, whereas a "Large" would be a H.D. seldom ever ordered Bracket, for a Group 2 Battery also used on larger Cars and Fords.

These are more Rectangular than almost Square as a Group 1 Battery is.
