This made me laugh!...years ago I had terry seat covers made for the Avanti...wanting to protect the original vinyl, and being anal, covered those covers with two black towels from Martha Stewart;-0Originally posted by jclary View PostWhat's the matter? Don't you have any old beach towels? Even Avanti owners can be CASO'S!

However...before we all get carried away with this Avanti...let's see where the bidding goes. One thing about forums...anybody that has the minimum brains to complete the registration process has equal opportunity to post their opinions as long as they don't violate the rules. So the challenge to all participants is to filter through the comments to find an occasional nugget of wisdom. As for me, I have not owned an Avanti, have seen many, and ridden in a few. My experience is very limited and my opinion should be viewed with that in mind. However, I'm gonna offer it anyway.
Not until a bid is proffered that reveals the "reserve," will we know if this seller values his car reasonably, or if he is just another "dreamer or schemer" of the car collector world. eBay is full of them. Only then, can the car, with its attributes vs negatives be appropriately evaluated by a potential buyer? At the current bid price, it doesn't look so bad. By the time the reserve is met...who knows?
I'm not bidding, not risking my money, and that makes it very easy for me to be entertained by this conversation.John Clary

Why would one paint an original red Avanti gray? I love red cars - even if my own Avanti is turquoise. Even with the funky seats and the color change, this one still looks like a pretty decent R1. Especially if the underneath is solid. My brother changed the wiring to my power windows to a heavier gauge, and they've worked great for nearly 9 years now. I think more Avanti owners with bum PWs should try that approach. It will be interesting to see how much this car brings. The Pickers recently gave $17.5k for a '63 R1 with baaaaad paint.edp/NC

John,
I got a big dose of reality handed to me at the International meet here in WA that I wasn't expecting. Let me say that there are (10) letters on the trunk of my Avanti that start with "S" and end with "R" which I find affirming as to the heritage of my car. When I'm at a stop light & someone asks, "What is it?" I always respond, "It's a Studebaker." R2658 is a vehicle that was owned by Studebaker and I have the paperwork to prove it. My wife will answer, "It's an Avanti, made by Studebaker," as though it needs a qualifier. I view all of that as a positive and that's why I view my self as a member of the Studebaker community. It should be one and the same for the '63, '64 Avanti community, however there are those who chose to differ.
