I am trying to locate a driver side trunk hinge for a 51 Starlight coupe. I have looked in the parts manual and the 52's have a different part number. What year and model hinges will work on the 51 Starlight Coupe?

I believe all starlights 47-52 will interchange with your starlight. memory says sedans and convertibles are different from the starlight, I have one off a 52 4 door on my 47 2 door and it works fine.

What about hinges from a 52 Hardtop?

What about hinges from a 52 Hardtop?

Sadly, no.

Even though the part numbers are different in 52, my understanding is that 52 hinges will interchange with 47-51 hinges - from the proper body style.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that 52 hardtop hinges are for the short trunk that is also used on two door sedans, four door sedans, Land Cruisers, and convertibles. That's because the 52 hard top was based on the convertible body.

All 5 passenger coupes (starlight coupes) and three passenger coupes (business coupes) take the long trunk lid and the associated hinges.

So... the 52 hardtop hinge will not work on your car. Not because it is from a 52, but rather because it is from the wrong body style.

I just packed some pre war and some from 47- 52 types for Tacoma...... I do not have that book handy, but what part numbers are you two talking about? I could bounce them off the list this weekend. I was searching for current prices and all of the hinges I packed up are NLA.

Those are some I packed up. I have all of the ones mentioned above. My experiences with them has me inspecting the other side very close for any cracks, bending of the moving parts and when interchange-able, take a spring off of the new one and swap it with the other one. Not all springs interchange, so be careful with a lid if you are just replacing one hinge. Be sure all wear points get some lube.
