  • Do 1963-64 Studebaker R series motors have 2 or 4 bolts mains?

    Just curious. Chevy owners always brag about a 4-bolt main engine.

    Main caps / bolts are the same as regular v8 blocks. But some bolts have studs also to attach the splash shield.

      Studebaker didn't really need to resort to 4 bolt mains, the stock blocks have plenty of extra strength (and weight) already and have an extra headbolt for each cylinder that the sbc never had. Also, all V8s used steel cranks so no need to provide a special crank for added performance.
