If one was looking to find the leak in an a/c system with R12 would you use a "sniffer" or use the dye and black light??

    Thanks for your opinions.

There is usually evidence of dust around a fitting, where the refrigerant escapes small particles of dust will accumulate, not very technical but is a good indicator.

I always used my leak detector torch. It's really sensitive, but be sure you don't breath the air around the flame, as it's phosgene gas. Been a lot of years since I used it.

I have had more success with the dye than a sniffer, particularly for slow leaks.
