  • The Great Race 2018

The Great Race, 2018 version, was launched here in Buffalo, NY on Saturday. 118 Cars rolled past the starting line in one minute intervals. Included in that group were 5 Studebakers: 1937 coupe driven by Ron VanderMarel from Waterdown, Ontario; 1954 Landcruise driven by John Corey from Melrose, NY; 1955 President driven by Annegret Reichman from Kirkland, WA; 1956 Sky Hawk driven by Don Ellicott from Marietta, GA; 1960 Hawk driven by Neil Myerscough from Brooksville, FL. I met with all the drivers prior to the start, congratulated them on entering one of the most dependable marques, asked if they were a member of SDC and suggested they join the Studebaker Drivers Club. John Corey was already a member in good standing, belonging to the Mohawk Chapter in NY. Be sure to catch John's blog everyday during the race. The other drivers showed an interest in joining SDC.

The race will cover 2,300 miles, entirely within the Northeast Zone, SDC and will finish 9 day later in Hallifax, Nova Scotia. Many of the Chapters in the Northeast Zone will be showing their support for all the racers, especially the Studebakers. Race details can be found on the Great Race website.

Thanks for the post Pete. I met John Corey and his Land Cruiser at a stop during last year’s race. A nice guy for sure.

Don Elliott bought the Sky Hawk last year from Stephen as a running project car that needed everything. He must’ve had a lot of late nights getting it ready.

It does show the start of the race.
