I'm getting ready to put a 3sp od in my 64 champ truck. Has anyone got a picture of how the kick down switch mounts in the carb linkage. This truck had a 5sp od. Now it's going with a t86.

Is your truck a 6 or a V-8? The switch typically mounts on the accelerator linkage, which is different between the two engines.

I forgot it's a v8. There's mount for on the linkage but it seems something is missing.

I have a 64 Champ with a 259 and a T86. If no one has posted a pic by tomorrow afternoon, I'll go out and take some pics for you.

The fixed part of the throttle linkage should have a hole just forward of the pivot which is where the kick down switch gets mounted. If I remember correctly, all V8 throttle linkage has the hole for the switch. There is also a paddle on the moveable part of the linkage that will contact the push button on the switch when the linkage is pulled to the wide open position. There are different types of linkage. If yours is fixed, meaning there is no spring in the part of the linkage that is connected between the carburetor and the pivot, then that will have to be replaced as every overdrive setup that I've seen has the spring type of linkage. I've posted before of how I moved the kickdown swicth to the clutch pedal, then reversed the wires- front to rear. The advantage to me and my six, is that I get second OD and then go straight to third without flooring it to not be in 3rd OD. Plus, instead of flooring it to get out of 3rd OD, all I do is lightly tap the clutch pedal. I've had this for the past 6 or 7 years, and love it.

You only get the "Flipper", "Paddle" or "Lever", on the Throttle Bellcrank IF you have Overdrive, so the Bellcrank needs to replaced with the correct one or a "Paddle" welded on.

Yup been at the shop and checked no paddle. I did manage to find one in my spare parts. This truck came out with 5sp od. Sometime thru the years they changed engines and put in t86 no od. I'm putting in a t86 od with a top shifter in in. Thanks every one.

From pics, kick odwn switch mounted correctly. Also looks to have paddle howecerit looks like it wouldn't make proper contact with KD switch shaft.
I haven't figured out how to post pics here but if you want to text your phone #, I'll send pics of mine as it is factory correct or works as intended.

Went looked at mine, took pics wit phone. I took one from about same angle your third pic. Yours is set up correctly. Tried sending phone pics to email but doesn't come to email. Think I could follow process but being electronically impaired makes it challenge. Old age, I guess. Let me know if I can help, truck is right outside my door. I's my daily and works daily.

Kim, if you're referring to the pictures posted above, those are from MY truck, not the OP's truck-in-question. Sorry if I am misleading you.

You can use a 6 volt switch for the kick down, the electrical system doesn't know the difference. Bud
