Exterior door handles

Has anyone had any success with disassembling door handles? I want to restore the handles on my 53. They’re not terrible now but I want them to look nice.

The exterior handles in '53 are stainless steel, except the actual push button; not that difficult to polish up using finer and finer sandpaper and then a buffing wheel, without disassembling.

The push buttons are available and to 'fix' them I drill a hole for a cotter pin and washer and put new springs in them. Don't forget a dab of grease in there. We have the parts if you don't find them.

Thanks for the tips all. Funny it’s been so long since I’ve looked the handles I forgot they were stainless! Man this project is taking too long.
