  • Woke up the Sky Hawk

Was out messing around at the shop one evening this week, and decided I'd go around and start up a few of the cars. I made the 'rounds' and the next one up was the Sky Hawk... Dr. Cade restored the car in the middle 70's, and the day it was finished, someone took it out and ran it through a big wood fence. Doc named the car "Ferrous Oxide"; the scientific term for "rust". I've never heard the thing run before, so I thought I'd give it a go! Spent about 15 minutes on it, and decided it was ready to be brought back to life. And shockingly enough, the 289 ran pretty good! Fired right up, no smoke or anything out of the ordinary. The loud rattling noise is a cracked flex plate, however.

Made a video of it here. Yes, that's me narrating. [:I]

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Today, my granddad was there so I just had to start it up for him. He told me to put it in gear and see what happens; and the darn thing tried to take off! It seems that the trans is still fine. On the '56 V8 Flighto-s, did they have a first gear start? I'm thinking they did, but could be wrong... [?]

Also, my uncle just bought another Sky Hawk from Stephen Cade, we'll be fetching it next weekend maybe. It's supposedly a pretty decent car, and the only rust is in the rocker panels. Going by what Steve said, it'll probably start up as well as this Sky Hawk.

Funny you should mention that Joe...

My granddad and I were discussing what colors the two should be. The yellow and brown one will most likely be monotone black, just like the one my granddad had and totaled in the early 70's (only that one was an OD car). The 'new' one, which is blue and gray, will be the two-tone green one. (IF it's up to me, that is. )

IF the 'new' Hawk ends up being Glenbrook/Seaside, I'll be sure to let it share the garage next to your Glenbrook/Seaside '56J. [)]

Also, there's a 1 ton '56 Transtar here my granddad has. Maybe it should be two tone green. It with a Hawk on a trailer behind it would be a neat rig going to shows!
