Can someone help identify the CID of this engine and the date range Stude used them. It came in a Willy's Wagon a friend bought and also has a Saginaw overdrive trans attached.

Fuel pump on the Oil Fill Tube, that's '51-54. 232. Might be an early 259, not sure about that.

From the upright carburetor, I would say it's a 51/52 232 engine.

Can you get the serial number?

Are you sure the overdrive is a Saginaw and not a Borg Warner? I've never heard of a Saginaw overdrive.

It's Definitely a 232"! It's carburetor and thermostat housing, look like those that were used on either '51- '52 Commanders or trucks from '54 on. I'm not really sure, whether or not, any '55s were actually made with the fuel pump located on the filler tube, like that? Maybe if 232"s were still available as a truck engine, in '55?

Look under the glass bowel of the fuel filter. You should find a number stamped into the top of the block. Looks like a 53 up, since it has only one bolt holding down a 1 piece dist.

Sag. O/D's were used in Chev. '65 to '68?. B/W O/D on Sag. 3spd trans. Put that O/D on a Sag. 4spd. trans makes a very nice setup. Need an adapter or a '61-'62 Stude 4spd bellhousing tho!- Jim

Near the bottom of this page are some photos that help you find the number you can bounce off the list.

Good luck!!!

SOME of the above Posts info will work on 1953 and on Studebaker V8's, but this is a 1951 or 1952 "232", so the Engine Number is next to the Distributor in the Rear, on a machined flat Pad.

The above Posts info is correct though about the fact that the Number IS hand STAMPED into the casting, not raised as part of the Casting.

UPDATE in Maroon:
obviously '55 Was a Typo, if '51-52 are in the rear, '53 to '64 would in the front.
