Well, Brian, depending on the Serial Number, it could be an early Champion Scotsman, but it is a Scotsman.
The earliest literature marketed that model as a Champion Scotsman, but the "Champion" prefix was dropped pretty soon. I doubt they recorded the Serial Number of the last "Champion" Scotsman before the next day dawned and they decided they were just "Scotsmans."

Funny thing is, I had thought I'd read that the Scotsman has taken on a retro chic because of its cheapo status in the day. You'd think the owner would want to take advantage of that...

A Scotman's charm is it's uber-spartan presence...heck, an automatic transmission wasn't even an option until well into the 1958 model year, IIRC.
