Well, Brian, depending on the Serial Number, it could be an early Champion Scotsman, but it is a Scotsman.

The earliest literature marketed that model as a Champion Scotsman, but the "Champion" prefix was dropped pretty soon. I doubt they recorded the Serial Number of the last "Champion" Scotsman before the next day dawned and they decided they were just "Scotsmans."

      Thanks, Bob!
Funny thing is, I had thought I'd read that the Scotsman has taken on a retro chic because of its cheapo status in the day. You'd think the owner would want to take advantage of that...
      Maybe he just doesn't know.

Agreed, Brian. It seems silly to me the way some people "trim out" Scotsmans with whitewall tires and wheel covers and two-tone paint, none of which were available when the car was produced. A Scotman's charm is it's uber-spartan presence...heck, an automatic transmission wasn't even an option until well into the 1958 model year, IIRC.

        "Retro chic," as you say.

To each his own, of course. BP
