  • East African Safari Rally- Need Help

I'm sure this is unlikely, but on my 63 Daytona there is an old sticker that says:

    East African Safari
    International Car Rally
    Equipped With Columbus Shock Absorbers

Did Studebaker ever run this race? It does and did exist in 1963, but I see no mention.

    Thanks.

    Justin

    Here are some NOS stickers:

Can't remember ever hearing of Columbus shocks -- maybe they were not sold in the USA?

Columbus shock absorbers if I remember correctly were original equipment on some Studebakers. I remember buying them as replacement parts in the 60's Bud

They were made in Dyersburg, TN. My uncle was one of the plant managers. They also made the Kool cushions

Yes, Bottom decal above is what is on the window. It's funny because I am planning to turn this Daytona into a racer.

Studebaker did have factory sponsored teams in the Shell 4000 rally in Canada, but I have never heard about Studebakers competing in the East Africa Safari. Stu Chapman may be of some help with this as he was involved in the Canadian event.
