  • Brakes: Vented Master Cylinder cap?

    Hi All-
I have not moved my 62 GT for months after doing myriad tasks. On firing her up and pumping the brake a couple of times I shift into reverse and apart from the Buzzing from the FoM (yeh, I know- that's another job...) I find the brakes locked up. Now I'm pretty sure the pedal reserve is not the problem, but I backed the rod off about 1/8" just in case. I remember replacing the manky old Master Cyl Cap with another one but it's not a vented one. Is this causing the lockup?
Looking for the old cap, meanwhile.......
    Steve

      Ok. I forget pretty easily.

Since you reported a problem, how about also posting the solution?

The buzzing Trans. is Low Fluid or incorrect Throttle pressure adjustment.
Also check rear Engine Mounts and Left Rear Mount for a 1/2 Inch Spacer to Frame.

All Master Cyl. Caps are Vented except a special one with the Fitting for a Line to a underhood Reservoir, they are just VERY small holes in the sides of the Cap.

It's not embarrassing to be wrong, we all are at times.

UPDATE: OPPS: if it is Right Hand Drive, the Spacer goes on the RIGHT Rear Engine Mount!

Just thinking that with the vehicle being in Australia, south of the equator, thus being upside down from when manufactured, wouldn't a vented cap allow the fluid to drip out?
Sorry, bad joke, but it just hit me that way, lol.

The car has been idle in place for months and up on ramps. I had all the feeling that the rear wheels were turning but the front wasn't budging- like the brakes had jammed on.
              OK,
I forgot I'd blocked up the frame for added safety.
              No problem, not going anywhere.....
              jeeze.... I forgot....
