  • 57 Golden Hawk Starter Removal.

I need to remove the starter from my 1957 Golden Hawk. Sounds simple. The exhaust pipe runs right over it and I see no way to get it out. Is this a factory problem? Do I need to remove the exhaust pipe or is there something I dont know? Anyone ever had to do this?

The factory pipe was formed to allow removal. Some replacements weren't designed as such.

Thanks 64V-K7. The exhaust was replaced about 10 years ago. Looks like the shop just put it in the wrong place.

        Starter removal

If you will take the time to unbolt the exhaust down tube from the header, and pull it down.......You will find enough clearance to pull the starter, after you unbolt it........

Thanks alapairod, that's is exactly what i am in the process of doing. Got 3 2 of the 3 nuts off so far. One bolt had 1 nut and the other had 2. Head is rounded off so I need a special tool to get it. Progress is good though!
