More than $400 for a Stude bullet? You would have better luck convincing a MoPar nut that an Imperial is actually a Chrysler!

I don't know about the '51 spinners, but the '50 spinners have been in this price range for many years.

Studebaker parts like this seem to be getting more attention as mere decorations in restaurants and bars. I think this is driving the prices up to some extent.

I bought a 51 Landcruiser which had the outer ring chromed. I’ll gladly trade it for the stock painted ring.

The outer part of the large ring was simply masked off and painted body color. You should be able to do that yourself or have it done inexpensively. I would recommend etching the part to be painted and use an epoxy primer prior to color. If etching is not available, lightly sand the shiny chrome to allow the primer to adhere better. Proper preparation prevents poor performance.

The bullet ring on my '50 was purchased many years ago at the York swap meet. The seller had just purchased a lot of stuff out of an old dealership. He thought he was selling a NOS ring, as it was still in the box. When we removed the part from the box we discovered the ring had a large crack and was obviously used. We guessed the dealer had apparently replaced a ring for someone's damaged one and put the old one back in the box. Since the chrome was still exceptionally good and the crack wasn't too noticeable, we struck a deal on the price and it's been on my car ever since.

Not so. There is a sheet metal ring that is painted body color. It fits over the outermost chrome portion of the bullet. We had a discussion of this a year ago when someone bought a Land Cruiser with the sheet metal body color ring missing.

Here is that discussion. started by Tim333.

All you need is the sheet metal cover that gets body color. And I would bet Roy Valdez has some of those.
