How do you find out how many cars were made of a specific year from the studebaker factory for example a 1939 Commander

  • #2
Fred Fox's book will give you those numbers. I am in my shop but can give them to you when I get home.

You're here on the SDC Forum, right? You have explored the rest of the website? You are a member of SDC and get Turning Wheels every month, yes?

        Look on this page: http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/tw_index.asp
Download the index to Turning Wheels, look for the articles on 1939 cars, then order a back issue of the Oct. 1990 TW with Fred Fox's article. The articles in TW about a particular year and/or model usually list detailed numbers for production quantities, among other useful items. There is a page on this website that tells you how to order back issues: http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/tw_backissues.asp

A reprinted parts catalog will also give a pretty good idea of how many there were by looking at the serial number ranges, especially by comparing 1939 Commander starting serial numbers (4,110,001)with 1940 starting numbers (4,148,501), plus about 5,000 more cars built at the LA plant. This page will show you some places to buy the parts catalog and shop manual for your car, as well as a long list of Studebaker parts vendors: http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/classifiedads.asp

        The vendor list: http://www.studebakervendors.com/
