can someone in the Studebaker world ,please tell me why some of the fins have a double layer outer edge ?

As far as I know ALL Hawk fins were simply applied over the original 1953 style fenders.

Please explain what you mean by "double layer outer edge". It is not clear to me. I agree with Son of Lark's answer, but I did not think that was what you were asking about ("outer edge").
As an aside (I think), 1956 Golden Hawk fins are fiberglass and the rest are steel.

Sorry, what I meam is the outer edge ,where the stainless fastens, some of the fins have a half inch wide double thickness of metal. The original (I believe ) off of my 57 c body are one layer, 2 of the other 3 I have are double layered, both for the left side ??
