  • 1960 Lark Luggage Rack screws...

Anyone know what size screws the luggage rack takes? I took mine off 6 years ago and the screws that hold it down to the roof went awol. Went to put it all back on the car tonight and was decently frustrated. Cut new foot pads and everything for it.

Pretty sure they were a phillips, chrome plated, and tapered head. Take the 'leg' to the hardware store and the proper one will sit flush in the hole......

Don't know the size but, no doubt they should probably be Phillips oval head stainless screws.Click image for larger version

          Sean,
Hardware Sales in Bellingham has a big assortment of oval head stainless machine screws as shown by Brad above. Find the size that fits the hole in the roof and the also the device it is securing. On my 63 roof rack I put some silicon sealant on the threads to insure no leak into the headliner.

            Dick,
Wouldn't they be sheet metal screws, rather than machine screws? I'm under impression machine screws use machine nuts, whereas sheet metal screws do not have the machined thread pitch, and simply grab the sheet metal as anchor. Thanks for the info fellas. Will be taking some measurements and hitting up Tacoma Screw one of these days when I get a moment. They are only a few blocks from my shop anyways.

Make sure they are short so they do not attack the passengers. Any length two threads past the inside of the roof sheet metal is wasted.

Yep! Be more concerned with the headliner than the passengers. If the headliner doesn't suffer, everybody's happy.
