  • Value information

    Hello,
I recently inherited a 1951 Bulletnose 4 door. I think it is a Commander. All stock, six cylinder with auto transmission. Runs and drives, older restoration so it is not perfect. I am trying to get information on what it is worth for insurance and if I decide to sell it. Any help on then best way to determine a reasonable value would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to the SDC Forum.

It can't be a 1951 Commander. They were all V8s. A 1951 Champion would be an inline six cylinder.

Pictures (in and out) would be a big help. The body plate information (on the engine side of the firewall) would be a big help in determining just what you have. Some of us here could then give you a guesstimate on value.

It could, however, be a '50 Commander. As they were equipped with a 245" inline six.

Can someone list the differences between a 1950 Commander and the Land Cruiser?

The Land Cruiser has vent windows in the rear doors, and only were built as 4 door sedans.
The Land Cruiser is 4 inches longer, including the wheel base, and it's in the rear doors and floor pan extra length.
The Land Cruiser has a rear seat center arm rest that folds down.

Land Cruisers also came with an oil filter and rear sway bar as standard equipment.

Whatever pictures you can post, or, and a little more specific information, would indeed help in determining a realistic value!

I will post some photos of the car and serial tag info to help out. It may take a couple of days. Thanks for the feedback.

There is a plate on the firewall, under the hood, on the passenger side of the car. In big letters/numbers it will say something like:

                    10G-W5
                    2516

If you tell us what that plate says, we can tell you a lot about the car.

ID:	1717418 Here are some photos, the body placard on the firewall is 10G-W5-6477. As I mentioned this is an older restoration, paint is pretty good but has dings and such. The windshield is cracked as is the drivers side window. The drivers front fender has been backed into and needs fixed. One tail light has been broken and appears to have been glued back together. Hope this helps. Thanks.

                        10G = 51 Champion
W5 = regal deluxe trim, although the new vinyl interior is much more plain than the nylon striped interior would have been from the factory.
6477 = 6477th regal deluxe four door body built in 51

BTW, the battery cables are undersized. they should be much heftier.

Interesting that someone would put a tachometer on a Champion with automatic drive.

It's the correct 51 bullet. It's just missing the sheet metal ring that is supposed to be painted body color. Some folks leave that off to show more chrome.

The Land Cruiser and the convertible have different interior door handles and window cranks (with chrome knobs) than the regular 50 Commander cars.
