  • My Car at Gainesville Dragstrip Nov 18-'17 13.993

Made the pull up to Gainesville yesterday with the Skeeter Hawk .
Got 4 runs in. Won 2 of them . Various cars in the other lane . Luck of the draw .

Best run was this one , at 13.993 at 94.92 MPH .
Good day overall , and good weather . About 80 deg by mid afternoon .
Be patient when you click on the vid , sometimes Flickr is a little balky .

Mighty kind of you to lift early and let the Chevy win the race to the time shack.

I was late as hell on the tree . He won by 0.0142 sec. , even though he ran 14.310 vs my 13.993 .
      His mph was 99.30 mine 94.92 .

Does seem strange that he won , but doesn't seem to pass me until where he did . ??
Had to have been in the last few ft.

      I was .601 RT , he .270= .331 advantage to him .

      At the 1/8th I was 8.829 he 9.358 = .529 diff. but I was slower there at 76.30 vs his 78.88 .
      At the 1000' I was 11.618 he was 12.039

I did not lift early .

I am not familiar with that track ( usually run Orlando ) , and never got a handle on where the finish line is .
It is easily seen at Orlando , but here , probably due to the Fuel Car finish line and photo cells , and the track prep making
the surface change color , i wasn't sure , so I kept going quite a ways down there , don't know what he did .

Bill really enjoyed the video.. Memories of Gainesville in the 80's:

Rolling backwards out of the start.
Drag racing, autocrosing down strip and parking lot.
Autocrosing against the great Phil Currin (street Vette).

          Wow, the place has changed!

            Quite inspiring indeed!
With the info & explanation 'bout the late start + time & speed it's way to good not to share on facebook's Scandinavian Studebaker group if it's ok...?

I want to make the point that we don't all have to have the fastest , baddest Studebaker .

The engine in this car is an almost stock 289 , that could have been built in 1956 , spec-wise.
Cast dished pistons and all...( R2+ cam). The car is lightened , and is geared to accelerate , and I run slicks .

So...anyone can do it , and invade the Strips with Studebakers !

              Mystify the young !

You'll get attention just because you're there . Kids get their pics taken, standing next to it .

                Cool, thanx Bill!
(& I can't get in to the racing site so I miss a lot these days...)

Absolutely fabulous fun. Love that 55 dash. My tach is a little one on the steering column (blocks the turn signal indicator lights). Super cool and nice times.

Here are 2 videos made by my friend in the Stands with an iPhone .
He only recorded 2 of my runs .
They are small size , and Flickr can be balky , so you may have to click on them twice , or whatever to make them run .
                    Good sound though ,
