  • Quick ratio steering

    Has anybody installed quick ratio arms on a non ps lark? I'm going to try a set on my lark , keep in mind my car has 165-15s on the front and an sbc with alloy heads , intake and zero accessories . I'm doing this for two reasons...my right side tie rod barely rubs on the drain plug for about a 1/4" of travel on right turns, Its a moroso kick out pan with rt front plug. And 2nd if I can quicken the steering a little it would be a win win I dont plan on doing a lot of paralel parking

    Go for it. I have never had a Lark. I put them on an Avanti with no power and for what little parallel parking I do, they weren't bad. But I wouldn't let the Old Lady drive it.

        What year lark? 61 later had the better Saginaw box, results will be better on a 61 or later lark

          It's a 59 ,at this point it still has the original box ,it doesn't seem to have too much slop but I can see a saginaw box in it's future

            Yea, I bought a set for my 45 wagon. Not going to install them till after the rest of the car is on the road and any bugs worked out (whole car upgrade). Then I'll go thru the front suspension and install the short arms.

            If you have any steering problems...either start working out with weights... or install a set of Hankook Optimo tires. Because of their design and because of the high pressure required (by design), the steering effort goes WAY down, making the car "much" easier to steer. Absolutely no need for power steering.

            I put a set on my 59 Lark wagon and was amazed at the lack of steering effort required with the Hankook tires.

              I have a set of fast steering arms and plan to use them on my original '59 Lark V8, no power assist. I am using 215/70r15 on 7" wide wheels and it is real easy to steer. I'll post my results.

                  Been driving the lark for a couple of day's now , and I am finding the quick ratio arms to be no problem. The car is not darty and the steering effort is not any worse than a lot of older cars I've driven WO power assisted steering. Keep in mind the front tire's are 165 15s and the car has a aluminum headed sbc with no accessories , batt in trunk etc. But so far I find it to be a great addition.

                      Sorry, but it's NOT going to be easy to turn if you install those quick steering arms, not with your setup.
                      It is nothing like lumpy's lightweight front end and tiny Tires.

                        OK Rich, I concede but at my ripe old age it will be my own special form of exercise. And I don't plan on any parallel parking.
