Well, I took Betty for a ride this afternoon, I ended up finding a drum in a parts yard locally and installed new front bearings. A lot better than before, but still very stiff from sitting. Tomorrow am taking her over to DMV to finish the titlework (vin needs to be verified). I found a mechanic locally that will do the bushings for a reasonable price. She needs a good lube job. I was warned not to lube the car until the bushings are replaced as the front end will become VERY loose. She's been asleep for about 15 yrs.

I hate to rain on your parade (though rain has been predicted) but are you sure the DMV is going to be open tomorrow [?] [?] [?] I think it's a Holiday...

I've got "No comment" on the lube job.

oh geesh.. your right Dave.. working 6 days a week and you kinda lose track of holidays and everything else. I'm probably gonna do the lube job anyway as I'd rather not damage those parts that are still good. My arms a just a wee bit sore from turnin her. Pepboys had an air grease gun on sale for 7 bucks.. I know I'm gonna need that one more..

I'd be careful with that thing if I were you.
In fact, I'd go for the regular hand-pump gun myself.
But that's just me.
NO- that's NOT what I meant!!! This is a family Forum...

I've been going out and running it quite a bit today.. let it sit a while..go back for another run around the block. (i have a temp tag). let it sit.. Trying to make sure its gonna be reliable before I start going farther.. I've been fiddling with the timing and the carb.. I think I have it dialed in. I've had ti up to about 35mph but not beyond that. When I start it after sitting, there is a puff of blue smoke. after I hit the gas.. no more. Must be everything seating in.

Bob,Ive got one of those cheap air grease guns and it works great. Some of those fittings need a lot of pressure to force the grease in. All the old gas stations used air compressor grease guns. Many of todays "oil and lube" places don't even give you a have a hand job anymore.
