I hope whoever owned this car didn`t pay for this paint job.

What you see in the paint job appears to be reflected throughout the entire photo (all of them). It looks like someone tried using a photo enhancement program to sharpen the images but it did not work well.
I could be wrong, but that is what it looks like to me.

That WON'T buff out!!

Maybe it's an enlarged Hot Wheels car.

Or fix that hideous color.

If you get a good paint job... it's a miracle!

I agree on that one. Perhaps taken with a Flip-phone?

If it's actually the paint and not a computerized enhancement, what nap roller do you think they used?

That front end modification to get air to the engine compartment is not something I would do

I once saw a Sunbeam Tiger that had a similar finish. The owner said it was unintended. He just told everyone that like a refrigerator it was that way so the finger prints wouldn't show!

Looking at the pictures I see a clear reflection in the bumper but not the paint. The paint on the dash has runs, the gauges and the rear name plate are pitted. There are no under the car shots and the brakes appear to be cobbled together. Mine may be in worse condition but it is original and I am not presenting it as a nice car. I guess I'm not presenting mine at all.

It is a bit unusual to see a car sitting in a show room that looks that rough. The bezels on the dash could use some chrome polish. At least you get some big speakers in the trunk to fill that enormous space. ;)

Lots of orange peel. I should have my 60 Hawk ready for paint next month. I really hope it looks better than that. I'll be doing the paint myself, so if its too bad, it will come back off and start over. Have painted a few cars in the past, that turned out well, but have not done base and clearcoat. Body guys tell me that it is easier, so we will see. Still deciding on original color (desert sand), or something more modern.

Notice that it is listed as; "
Drive Side:
Right-hand drive", but it isn't.

The ignition key is in the ON position, but nothing is showing on the gauges.

They had to work to get that Group 24 battery in there (I guess that they thought that all 1963 Studebakers used that size.).

Bad paint job? Not if they used Linex as the base coat, like this guy;

I bet the Linex does dampen noise pretty good though!

I know nothing about this or any other Avanti, but looks like someone has altered this one's forward edge of the hood, to let fresh air in. Anyone else notice that?

I have found a real good quality paint brush will do just as good a job as a fly sprayer. Just sayin...

Looking at the pictures on my phone it doesn't look like the pictures are good enough to be able to look for paint defects. Maybe you can see more on a real computer?

I've seen a good many much smoother brush jobs.

[QUOTE=sailingadventure;1074612]I hope whoever owned this car didn`t pay for this paint job.

I've been an amateur painter my whole life and have painted my own cars. THIS is one reason that I don't like two stage paint. However, on metallic, it is necessary to clear coat. It looks like the base coat was fine but it looks like he didn't clear it heavy enough to allow it to flow out which takes at the very least two coats. After that it must be color sanded and then buffed. This car was not color sanded or buffed. When done correctly it has a completely smooth mirror finish with no orange peel like you see on this car. It could be fixed but.....

A guy I work with has a 33 ford roadster replica that is painted with Linex liner. At least with bedliner the finish is uniform over the entire car. Some of the ridges and sharp edges on this poor Avanti appear to be fairly slick. Slick edges with heavy orange peal on the flat surfaces are a pretty good indication of a painter that needs a new profession.

I can only imagine what the rest of the cars on the lot must look like if this one is worthy of the show room.

Right. The same pattern appears on the wheels, floor, etc.

In the black paint on the dash, I see runs all over. Not due to bad photo, just runs in the paint. Maybe it was painted at midnight, with the lights off. LOL

Probably true. I'm sure mine won't be in anyone's showroom any time soon.

The ad says they have the car on consignment, so the seller was probably the one who prepared it for the sale, not the consignment lot.

To be fair, look at the rest of the photo and not just the paint. Look at the showroom wooden floor and the red truck outside through the window. Even the bright work on the car. Every thing has the same look. I think someone did a bad job with Photoshop rather than with the paint gun. The car has other issues that I don't care for but I would have to see it before I passed because of the paint.

Just noticed the weird reverse scoop piggybacked on the gun sight.

Look at the 10th image of the open trunk, the paint/clearcoat is drooling over the body edge.

I once painted a 1949 2R17A fire truck with a gallon of Rustoleum (Tremclad) safety red with a foam roller. Actually turned out well with the exception the paint had no UV protection and started to fade a couple of years later. Craig may be able to dig up my original post (at least 10 years ago).

Of course Photo-b eff'd it all up now: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?16143-Tremclad

You will have to do some re-scanning if one wants to see them. Thankfully, I never used Photobucket.

Look at the wheels and you will see the very same "orange peel". The "awful paint" is a photography problem, not the car.

Soo how bout the runs in the black painted dash? Hard to confuse orange peel with runs. LOL

Has anyone out there ever been totally happy with a paint job??? We bought a brand new 1974 Plymouth; it had 39 factory dings in it. Must have been a bad vintage for Plymouth. They were a nice car on a good year and an absolutely awful car on bad years. Was a coin toss.
