  • '37 wheel color?

Doing a little cleaning on the wheels I picked up for the Champ, and I am wondering if there is still some original paint on them.

The outsides of the wheels are a blue/green color that is not in the best shape.

But on the inside (of at least three - not too sure about the other two) there is a very nice deep red color. Cleaned one area and put a little wax on it and it brought quite a shine with a noticeable amount of paint on the rag. Does this look like an original '37 wheel color?

    Thanks ahead.

Actually, it looks exactly like this Shoshone Red (Maroon) 1954 Stude. Color.

Well, at least the inside is not red - but the condition does not make it look like an 80 years old wheel...

In 1937 the wheel color was the same as the body color. The color shown on your wheel comes closest to matching the Grapetone Maroon as shown on the President coupe below.

Thanks Mr. Quinn - additional question...the chrome wheels on the President - are the center chrome parts ( between center cap and trim ring) a cap over the metal wheel or is the actual center part of the wheel chrome plated?

The President's optional hub cap shown below (used cap with black paint missing). The Dictator full disc cap was identical in size but had the word STUDEBAKER across the center (near impossible to find). Of course along with the full disc cap the initial image of the president coupe showed that the wheels also had the outer trim ring. The more common set up on the Dictator shown in image #2.
