During the first week-end of september the french Studebaker Amicale held a meeting to commemorate the 40 years of the club. We took this occasion to pay a tribute to Raymond Loewy. We were privileged enough to watch the premiere of a very good documentary about him which will be shown on french television during the next month. We also had the pleasure to eat at the place he owned for so many years, the Domaine de la Cense at Rochefort-en-Yvelines. In fact, the whole town was celebrating him as a designer and the entire town hall was decorated with his creations. I understood that the school pupils particpated a lot to this. I had the pleasure to meet two nice US citizens, Lewis Schucart, editor of the AOAI magazine, and David Hagerman whose late wife was RL's daughter. The three of us spent the saturday afternoon touring in my Hawk before Mr Hagerman delivered his speech with many interesting anecdotes about RL's second wife, which was a close friend of Jacqueline Kennedy and drove her XK 120 across NY city without any concern about the speed limits.
This was really an enjoyable meet and you can see some pictures here:http://www.autodejavel.fr/viewtopic.php?f=102&t=4649. Sorry, the text is in french.
As usual, my Hawk performed this 1000km/3 days trip without any incident. Unfortunately, RL's first french Avanti seized its compressor during the meet. It has been bought on e-bay!
Nice day to all.
