We see these mentioned from time to time. It is sometimes lost on us, that like lots of other brands, the name came from a legitimate family name. In life, some of us inherit a famous name, others, a fortune, estate, or "Trust Fund."

Many years ago there was a boat for sale in Seattle Washington with 2 (two) R-2's (yes Blown) in it. I have no idea of the boat manufacture. Does Rich or anyone from that area know of it's wherabouts?

The only thing that I remember about Studebaker and boats is that some company used the 1950's rear window as a windshield...

Hi, Bill,

There's a South Bend urban legend that a truckload of complete R2 engines was bought at scrap price/stolen in the shutdown of the Studebaker plant. They were supposedly brought to the Puget Sound area and used in marine conversions. Again, the legend was, no surprise, the R2s didn't last when given a long run at full throttle, as is the norm in boats. It was a tossup as to whether the supercharger would fail first or detonation would kill the pistons.
