Geez! That's pretty. So nice to see one some other color besides pea soup green or cloudy day gray.

Is it the camera angle or is that thing wearing a '52 front bumper? Those smaller guards towards the middle are 52 for sure. Still a sharp looker tho![^]

You do realize that the car has 4 doors, right? [:o)]

Had a short, but exciting drive today. It goes like spit, not so much in stopping. The brake pedal almost went to the floor one time so I need to rebuild the brakes even though they were done two years ago by the PO. yet another reason to not let a car sit.

That first generation V-8 is a nice runner. I don't think small verticle bumpers were offered in '51. The larger verticles should be front and center, with only bumper bolts outboard.
I was never impressed with the brakes on mine even when they were freshly rebuilt; not enough surface for the weight of the car. I replaced all with a set from a '61 V-8; difference between night and day.

My Uncle owned a '52 hardtop - and he said about the only place the brakes would lock up was on a gravel road. After having to slid over to the shoulder to keep from running up on someone (the car usually went down the road with the needle buried) he switched over to the later style.

By this photo John, it looks like there is not much travel on the brake pedal.

http://www.stude.com/51/i.jpg

Might be something to check out. If they have to be rebuilt - I would go for the later system.

The pedal does not return normally, I need to address that after I rebuild the MC. I may at least upgrade the fronts.

BTW - that IS a 52 front bumper arrangement. It's OK, mind you - but it's not curved back at the ends as much as the 51 bumper does. This is because the 52 had that big, flat grin of a grille fitted and the bumper was consequently straighter.[^]

Beautiful job on the sedan (love the color!)

Brakes? If you're going to keep it and drive it, just go get a set of discs from Jim Turner and be done with it. If you've done this car up for resale, well, that's maybe another story.

I futzed with my brakes for 3 years, replaced/rebuilt from end to end, without much improvement. Discs do the trick.

Good Luck!

I thought that car had the late brakes - or am I getting it mixed up with the '52 hardtop?

Keep it, and drive it, you do know me by now, don't you ? I'll make it in a nice driver, put 100 miles or so on it, and on to something else that needs work.
