I have a 63 289 I want to put in my 47 M-5. What motor mounts can I use? I once mounted a 259 using the old 6 cyl. mounts in the same truck and seemed to work. The 259 went to another project. I apprieciate any advice from someone who has done this. Thanks, Bill

If we understand correctly, you already know how to install a V8 in your truck. The 289" is the same block and thus identical externally to the 259" you previously installed.

Bill, All the mounts I have and make are for 55 to 64 trucks, for various engines. The earlier trucks had the same frame but didn't have the K-member that the later trucks had. There was a guy here from Lake Elsinore, Kmac 350 or something like that, who put a 289 in an early truck. You could do a search for his articles. And or go ahead and set up everything and make heavy paper templates, along with pictures and send them to me and I will make some, since this comes up quite often.

This is a very good thread about putting a Studebaker V-8 into an M series pickup. https://www.flickr.com/photos/70716191@N00/sets/72157622369403675/

If you have already done this with possibly an earlier 259 with a partial flow Oil Filter, the ONLY difference with a '63 289, will be the Full Flow Oil Filter at the right, lower, rear of the Block that may or may not be an interference issue, that will have to be "worked around".

I considered doing the same swap into an M15. After doing some measuring, I decided it was a little too tight to fit. The steering column was the first obstacle, and I see in the article that he had to change all of the original setup. The next was the distributor, and I didn't want to modify the firewall. It looks like he made it fit, but barely. I ended up finding a good used commander 245, but have not installed it yet.

Thanks to everyone that replied. A 700R overdrive is planned and trans mount is already ready to go. A TT out of a 63 stude truck w/ 409 gears is installed. Any ideas on a torque converter? Stock wheels and tires are planned. Thanks again to responders. Bill
