Not exactly, the Adapter connects the ENGINE to the Huge Transmission Case that encloses the Torque Converter and the whole GM THM Automatic Trans. with or without Overdrive.Originally posted by thunderations View PostNo, only overdrives were manual 3 speed transmissions.
There are adapters to install GM AOD's behind the Studebaker bell housing.
Works good but, lots of work and expense $$$$.00 to modify.
Automatic Overdrives were invented many years after Studebaker was gone in 1966.
Your Borg Warner Flight-O-Matic is a 3 Speed DIRECT DRIVE Trans. that starts out in 2nd. unless "L" is selected.StudeRich

Have the conversion costs ever been somewhat itemized?1963 Champ "Stu Bludebaker"- sometimes driver
1957 Silver Hawk "Josie"- picking up the pieces after an unreliable body man let it rot for 11 years from an almost driver to a basket case
1951 Land Cruiser "Bunnie Ketcher" only 47M miles!
1951 Commander Starlight "Dale"- basket case
1947 Champion "Sally"- basket case
1941 Commander Land Cruiser "Ursula"- basket case

This will get you started and then "Google is your friend". The biggest variable cost will be the tranny. BobOriginally posted by DougHolverson View PostHave the conversion costs ever been somewhat itemized?

From Bowtie overdrives, the everything you need for the trans, (trans, converter, wiring, dipstick, cooler, TV cable, etc... costs about $2200 with tax and core. I talked to them last week. Adapter with starter around $400, driveshaft and trans yoke around $300. You also need to make a rear trans mount crossmenber. So about $3000, and a lot of work.
