  • 2nd Speedster question: what are the switches for?

My second question is about the switches on the dash of the Speedster, which have no identification. Did they come that way, unlabeled? I bought an owners manual thinking they would be identified therein but they are not. You would think I could just try them and figure it out but the electrics on this car don’t work, I am having it rewired. I am guessing the left most switch is headlights and know the one under the dash on the heater pull must be heat but don’t know the other three. One must be fog lights but I don’t know which.

Hey Don, it's a Sports Car! You are supposed to not need a "Glove Box", and be such a car Enthusiast that you know your Car's controls without looking!

The standard '51-'55 teardrop shaped Lever on the Left is Wipers, Then Head Lights then Instruments (always on High) then I think Heat Fan is Left of the two on the right and lastly Defrost Fan.

Never had one, so you got me on the fog Lights, must be under the dash.

Don; The March 1955 Service Bulletin (No. 301) has six pages devoted entirely to the peculiarities of the Speedster. I would be glad to mail you or anyone else a nice copy for $13.00 postpaid. Does include the fog lights.

Slightly off-topic but some months ago I scanned in a line drawing of a side view of the Speedster and after some work in photoshop adapted it so as to be able to illustrate the various color offerings for this special model. This is the Shasta White - Pimlico Gray - Coraltone combination.

There used to be an excellent site on the web specifically for Speedsters; and it included an interactive ability to view the model in its different color options. Any clue what happened to it, or its owner?

There was also a 16 page parts book supplement with parts used exclusively on the Speedster. It does list the steering wheels available as ivory and gold or ivory and gray. Anyone interested the price is $19.00 postpaid. Three sample pages below.

Headlight and dash light toggle switch are right next to each other. The two toggles on the other side are for the heater motor and the defroster motor. The fog light toggle switch is down below the dash on the left side of the steering wheel. I'm doing this at one o'clock in the morning, so not going out to check. If you need more info let me know.
