So I want to get a new wheel cylinder for my 59 Silver Hawk but AutoZone sells two types and don't know which type I need. They sell a wheel cylinder with heavy duty brakes or a wheel cylinder without heavy duty brakes. How do I know which type I need?

All V8 wheel cylinders are the same and all 6 cyl wheel cylinders are the same for drum brakes. If you have disc brakes then they are different. Try WWW.STUDEBAKERVENDORS.COMMilt

Are you sure AutoZone shows "regular and HD" options for the 8 cyl.? According to 1959-1964 Studebaker Chassis Parts Catalog there is no HD option on the 8 cyl. 6 Cyl has both HD and non HD. The 6 cyl HD is the same as the 8 cyl.Last edited by rbisacca; 08-17-2017, 03:24 PM.Comment

As has been discussed in several threads elsewhere on this site, you are encountering the same problem as many others who tried to order parts for a 60-year-old car from a chain auto parts store. Their parts listings were accurate until about 20 years ago, when their paper catalogs were digitized to make them easier to use by untrained personnel. The people that did the digitization combined many listings that looked to them to be duplicative -- but weren't. All 1959 V8 Studebaker cars got the same wheel cylinders. As I recall, the EIS/Bendix numbers were 19236 and 19238, front and rear. Six-cylinder cars did come in standard and HD versions, because Studebaker built a lot of 6-cylinder taxicabs, which got the the V8 brakes.Originally posted by Silverhawk59 View Post
